Spero Solution’s reading list
This month’s blog is inspired by the Dr. Seuss quote:
“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.”
Yes, reading is for pleasure.
But reading is far more beneficial to our lives than just relaxing and getting away from it all in our heads!
It is also about flexing brain muscles and improving our outlook on life.

Improving Your Mindset For Business - Life Wisdom Books
The Surrender Experient:
My Journey into Life’s Perfection by Michael A. Singer
This book really made me think about what life is all about.
The author relates the story of what happened to him when he decided to let life dictate his actions, rather than the other way around.
I found that Michael challenged my views, beliefs, and expectations of life and made me questions what happiness really means.
The Happiest Man on Earth:
The Beautiful Life of an Auschwitz Survivor by Eddie Jaku
I know that this doesn’t sound like an uplifting book to read, but it is.
In the face of unimaginable horrors, Eddie made a vow to smile every day.
His philosophy on life is: “Life can be beautiful if you make it beautiful. It is up to you.”
Yes, it is a heartbreaking read.
Yes, at times it is almost unbearable.
But, in the end it is the inspirational story of a man who found hope and happiness amongst impossible odds.
This book helps to put your own problems into perspective.
The Wisdom of Sundays:
Life-changing Insights from Super Soul Conversations by Oprah Winfrey
In this book, Oprah brings together some of the inspirational conversations with thought-leaders from her TV show ‘Super Soul Sunday.’
Each of the ten chapters represents a step in Oprah’s spiritual journey and provides lessons on mindfulness and intention.
While reading this book, I found myself accompanying Oprah on her journey while taking one of my own, by opening my mind to the infinite possibilities of life.
Enlightening and thought-provoking.
Four Thousand Weeks:
Time and How to Use It by Oliver Burkeman
We are all obsessed with time.
In fact, we have a very short time on this planet – about four thousand weeks.
This book demonstrates how we can build a meaningful life by changing our relationship with time.
If you constantly feel like you are on a treadmill and there is never enough time, then this book is for you.
It gave me a reality check about constantly striving to get things done.
The three titles mentioned here all provide a different perspective on life and we can all learn lessons from them.
- Endless lists
- Not enough time
- Doing everything
- Becoming overwhelmed
These are all recurring topics I hear about every day.
We constantly strive to do it all, with ever-growing lists of things to do amid a constant barrage of emails and phone calls.
In a recent blog ‘Spending too much time doing and not enough time leading’ I wrote about the benefits of hiring an online business manager for small businesses owners with not enough hours in the day!

The E-Myth Revisited:
Why Most Small Businesses Don’t Work and What to Do About It by Michael E. Gerber
Michael uses his knowledge, experience and insights from years of experience to explain how expectations, common beliefs, and technical know-how can prevent a small business from becoming successful.
I found him to be adept at explaining the difference between working on your business and working in your business – a concept that small business owners often struggle with.
If you read this book and are still struggling with the concept, why not give me a call on 07846 754747 to find out how a Spero Solutions online business manager can help you to improve your mindset for business?
Built to Sell:
Creating a Business That Can Thrive Without You by John Warrilow
This book really resonates with me, and a lot of Spero Solutions’ clients, too.
In one of my blogs, ’How to stop doing everything in your business’, I looked at the subject of being too involved in the running of your business, and how you can become an obstacle to its success.
John’s book explains techniques to make sure that businesses can stand on their own two feet, making it a more attractive proposition to buyers when the time comes to sell.
The Happy Index:
Lessons in Upside-down Management by James Timpson
This book was a Sunday Times bestseller for a good reason – it makes sense!
James’s overall approach to running a business is to trust the team he has hired to run it for him.
The book comprises a number of lessons to implement an upside-down mindset to business for success and the health and wellbeing of everyone.
It equips you and your team to take another look at how your business is run and managed.
I hope that my recommended reading list provides some inspiration for improving your mindset for business, and that you flex your brain muscles and take something new on board.
